Dr. Oliver Sartor's Team is Making a Difference!


Dr. Oliver Sartor is announcing is his intention to return to the New Orleans area in April 2025 after having been at the Mayo Clinic since April of 2023. At the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, Dr. Sartor had served as Professor of Medical Oncology while also serving as Director of Radiopharmaceutical Trials and Chief of the Genitourinary Cancer Disease Group.
Dr. Sartor plans to work at the East Jefferson Hospital (part of the LCMC system) where he will direct a new Prostate Cancer Center of Excellence, seeing patients and conducting research. His research goals will focus on helping men with prostate cancer live longer and live better.
His prior research efforts have been pivotal for approval of multiple new therapies for prostate cancer, including Xofigo, Jevtana, and Pluvicto which are used to treat men with advanced disease. He has published over 500 peer-reviewed manuscripts and lectured in over 30 countries. In the past he has held many leadership positions including Medical Director of the Tulane Cancer Center and Associate Dean for Oncology at Tulane Medical School. He is past member of the Board of Scientific Counselors at the National Cancer Institute and a co-founding Director of the Louisiana Cancer Research Consortium.
Dr. Sartor's research will continue to focus broadly on prostate cancer and funds from the “One Man Shoot” event will help to support those endeavors. Specific goals will include a better understanding of genetic alterations that predispose men to prostate cancer and the management of those patients in a proactive manner. In addition, he will continue his scientific and clinical studies that focus on understanding the underlying pathology of prostate cancer in manner that will lead to therapeutic advances.
Dr. Sartor collaborates widely with leading researchers both in the USA and at a number of international sites including Australia, Norway, France, Germany, and the UK.
